VORD was founded in Stockholm in 2026, built on decades of research expertise in scalable and cost-efficient molecular assays.
VORD comes from the Old Norse vǫrðr. It means warden or guardian. In Norse belief, the vǫrðr was a guardian spirit that followed a person through life and watched over them.
The same root lives on in the Norwegian vardøger, a spirit forerunner said to arrive just before the person does: footsteps at the door or a voice in the hall, moments before they actually appear. In Swedish, the word survives as vård. It means care.
We chose the name because it holds what we set out to do: to watch over human health, and to catch the first signs of disease while there is still time to act. To find the signal that arrives before the symptoms do.
